Project Timelines: If you are building a new website, use Timeline A. If you have an existing website, use Timeline B.

 

Timeline A. You are building a new website. Congratulations!

I usually get involved at the conceptual stage of a new website. This lets me learn about the client’s goals and how the development team works and their process flow.

1. Interview Stage

Day One: Talk over the project with the project manager and whoever else from the agency who wants to meet. Topics include the client history, goals etc.

Day Two: Talk to the client and fill out the SEO Project Interview sheet covering important product/offerings and any questions.

2. Website Sitemap Stage

Day Three: Determine the organization of the website and number of pages.

Day Four: Client approves plan.

3. Keyword Research Stage

Day Five: Keyword research for topics/products/services covered on website begins. also begin creating a linkbuilding and promotion strategy.

Day Seven: Having determined best keywords for pages, start mapping keywords to the new URLs.

Day Nine: Send an Excel sheet with URLs, page titles, and meta descriptions to agency to implement (hard code).

Day Ten: Send redirect document to agency to implement once new URLs are live. Also send XML sitemap, and robots.txt file. Start implementation of linkbuilding strategy.

4. Promotion and Measurement Stage

Day Eleven: Send first SEO-focused monthly report using website analytics data. (If applicable) I prefer Google Analytics.

Day Twelve: Continue linkbuilding, overall improvement, and client consultation. Send additional suggested new webpages if client is finished with old list.

Timeline B. You are optimizing a current website. Congratulations!

1. Interview Stage

Day One: Crawl and scrape website to find errors and problems.

Day Two: Talk over the project with the project manager and whoever else from the agency who wants to meet. Topics include the client history, goals etc.

Day Three: Talk to the client and fill out the SEO Project Interview sheet covering important product/offerings and any questions.

2. Improvement Plan and Execution Stage

Day Four: Determine best implementation plan for improvements and execute.

Day Five: Keyword research for topics/products/services covered on website begins. As well as creating a linkbuilding and promotion strategy.

Day Seven: Having determined best keywords for pages, start mapping keywords to the new URLs.

Day Nine: Send an Excel sheet with URLs, page titles, and meta descriptions to agency to implement (hard code).

Day Ten: Send redirect document to agency to implement once new and updated URLs are live. Also send XML sitemap, and robots.txt file.

Website is updated! ITS BETTER THAN BEFORE!
